Mizzou notebook: Drinkwitz, Tigers stay hot with pair of four-star commits
Fourth of July weekend featured some recruiting fireworks for head coach Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri football program.
Missouri garnered the commitment of four-star running back Tavorus Jones of El Paso, Texas, on Friday before four-star offensive lineman Deshawn Woods of Omaha, Nebraska, pledged to the Tigers on Saturday.
Jones is rated by Rivals as the best Class of 2022 running back from the state of Texas and the No. 10 recruit at the position nationally.
Jones is a 5-foot-11, 205-pound rising senior at Burges High School.
Woods is regarded as the top 2022 recruit in the state of Nebraska at any position by both Rivals and the 247 Sports Composite. Rivals lists Woods as the sixth-best offensive line recruit in the country.
The 6-5, 295-pound behemoth is entering his senior year at Central High School in Omaha.
The Tigers' Class of 2022, which now includes 11 verbal commitments, ranks 19th in the nation and seventh in the Southeastern Conference, per Rivals.
Jones becomes Mizzou's first 2022 men's basketball commit
Christian Jones is primed to come to Columbia from the same hometown as his future head coach.
The rising senior at East St. Louis High School verbally committed to the Tigers' Class of 2022 on Friday, becoming the first member of the class under coach Cuonzo Martin, who also hails from just across the river from downtown St. Louis.
Jones is a 6-foot-4 point guard who averaged 11.1 points, 5.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game during his junior season with the Flyers.
