The Aurora Lady Houns have started their season 1-2 with a season-opening 2-1 victory (25-20, 17-25, 25-14) against Big 8 Conference rival Lamar followed by 2-0 losses against Clever (15-25, 13-25) and Webb City (16-25, 20-25).
Brooke Bellamy and Belle Marquier each lead the way with 18 kills and Olivia Gibson tallied 10 — three hitters combined for 46 of the team’s 54 kills. Marquier and Brookelynn Sandeval are tied with six blocks and Bellamy added five in the first three matches.
Senior defensive specialist Kortney Juracek leads the Lady Houns with 39 digs and she averages 5.6 digs per set and 13 per match.
Sophomore setter Gabie McVey did not play in the first two matches and she made her return against Webb City with 16 assists, six digs, and one service ace. Aurora’s offense should flow better with McVey back in the lineup. McVey tied Marquier for the team lead in assists.
In the win against Lamar, Marquier led with nine kills, Bellamy added seven, and Gibson had six. Marquier’s solid night included five aces, six blocks, 13 digs, and 11 assists, as she nearly recorded a triple-double.
In the loss against Clever, Bellamy led with six kills, while Juracek had six digs and Gibson six assists on a slow night for the Houn Dawgs.
In the loss against Webb City, Marquier and Bellamy finished with six and five kills, respectively, and Juracek made 10 digs.
Aurora returned to action Thursday on the road against Central Ozark Conference opponent Carl Junction, part of three straight matches against COC schools that started with Webb City and ends with Joplin on Monday.
