District losses ended the season for the Aurora soccer and tennis teams this week, but a handful of athletes will move on to sectional competition after top four finishes on the track last weekend.
At the district meet in Hollister, Aurora finished as district champions in the boys' 4x100-meter relay, girls' 800-meter run and boys' 4x400-meter relay. Aubrey Boatwright was the gold medalist in the 800, while the team of Jess Williams, Logan Lauffer, Dalton Thornton and Kohl Rohlman won both of the relay races.
In addition to the first place finishes, Aurora will move on to sectionals in the girls' 4x800-meter relay, boys' 4x200-meter relay and girls' 3200-meter run. The 4x8 team of Boatwright, Natalie Wallace, Brooke Schutte and Kaci Singer brought home second place, as did the boys' 4x2 (same team as above). Boatwright and Singer will be Aurora's representatives in the two-mile this weekend after finishing fourth and second, respectively.
Other finishers at the district meet included the boys' 4x8 team of Diego Garcia-Ortega, Caleb Wittenborn, Noah Lamb and Blake Hamelink in sixth, Wallace with fifth in the triple jump, Rohlman with fifth in the triple jump, and Schutte with fifth in the 800-meter run.
In soccer action, Aurora's season ended with a 5-1 loss against top-seeded Logan-Rogersville on Monday. It was the final high school game for seven Aurora seniors -- Sarah Woodall, Justina Naylor, Shea Schutte, Amber Gorman, Emma Freitas, Lauren Willhite and Abby Smith.
And the tennis season officially came to an end with losses in the singles district competition last Friday. Nick London fell in three sets to a Monett opponent in the number one spot, Xane Shirley lost in two sets against Mt. Vernon, and both doubles pairings (Dalton Hess/Angel Cruz and Felix Barrientos-Perez/Bruce Francisco Jr.) lost in two sets against Mt. Vernon and Thomas Jefferson.
