The Aurora Houn' Dawgs continued their winning streak late last week to claim the championship of the Clever Right Off the Bat tournament, defeating New Covenant Academy 9-3 in the title game.
The team's toughest test, however, came a game before, as Gage Singer led the team to a 2-0 victory over Springfield Catholic. Aurora defeated its new conference opponent despite recording just five hits. Fortunately for the Aurora fans, Singer allowed just one hit by the Irish, striking out 17 en route to the shutout win.
The Houn' Dawgs faced Branson on Thursday in their first home game and will travel to Carthage on Friday before a weekend matchup with Neosho.
Elsewhere in Aurora sports, the Lady Houn' soccer team still searches for its first win. The team fell in home matches against Branson (6-1) and Neosho (5-2) before falling on the road to Monett (4-1).
The team will look to pick up wins in the coming week at Fair Grove and McAuley Catholic before competing in the Greenwood Classic.
For Marionville, the Comet baseball team dropped its first home game of the season 11-9 against Purdy. The loss dropped Marionville to 3-1 after a perfect start in the Pleasant Hope Invitational.
The Comets, after playing at Billings on Wednesday and at home against Diamond on Thursday, will travel to Greenfield on Monday. They'll then compete in the Hartville Tournament next weekend, starting with a game against Norwood on Friday.
The Verona Wildcats' perfect start continued early this week with a 17-5 victory at Wheaton to move to 4-0, following a 12-1 win at McAuley on Monday.
Coach Fred Lundien's team took its perfect record on the road again to College Heights on Thursday and will play one more road game at Exeter on Monday before finally coming home next Thursday against Golden City.
