Spring sports started in a flurry over the past week as the weather warmed up to accommodate the outdoor activities to kick off the season. Teams from Aurora, Marionville and Verona all saw action early, including the following teams.

The Aurora track and field teams began the 2019 season with a trip to the University of Central Missouri.

One of 32 schools in attendance, Aurora was represented well in the 3200-meter run, as Kaci Singer placed second and Aubrey Boatwright followed up in third.

The girls' medley relay team of Boatwright, Singer, Natalie Wallace and Brooke Schutte also finished fifth.

For the boys, the highlight of the day was a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Kohl Rohlman, Noah Lamb, Logan Lauffer and Trace Thornton made up the team.

The teams will be back in action on Monday at Republic and at home on Thursday.

The Marionville Lady Comets got their first win on the softball field on Tuesday, improving to 1-2 with a 13-3 win over Blue Eye. The victory follows two losses to open the season, 16-2 against Crane and 18-8 at Jasper.

After meeting Verona on Thursday, the Lady Comets will travel to Clever on Monday before returning home for games against Diamond and Billings to close out next week.

The baseball Comets got off to a hot start on the diamond, winning three games in the Pleasant Hope Invitational.

The Comets defeated Ash Grove 15-5 to open play on Saturday, following up with a 6-1 win over the hosts the same day. Then Marionville took down the Stockton JV team 16-1 on Monday.
