With about a month left in the high school basketball season, including district play, area basketball teams are looking to continue adding to their win totals as the season draws to a close.
In Marionville, the Comets are on a hot streak, winning their last four games and eight of their last nine, with the only loss coming in the finals of the Crane Tournament.
Ted Young's team defeated Lockwood and Miller on the road in the last week, winning by double-digit margins in each game. The Comets were victorious at Lockwood by a score of 64-52 last Friday and defeated the Cardinals 67-41 at Miller on Tuesday.
Marionville, currently 14-6 overall this season, will face Pleasant Hope at home on Friday before traveling to Sarcoxie on Tuesday. The Comets will then compete in another Southwest Conference contest at Ash Grove next Friday.
The Lady Comets picked up a win this week as well, moving to 5-13 on the year with a 43-38 victory at Marion C. Early.
After facing Pleasant Hope at home on Thursday, the Lady Comets will travel to Sarcoxie and Ash Grove next week.
Both Aurora teams picked up wins this week, as the boys finally added a second win to their overall total in a 64-26 victory over Niangua in the Conway Invitational. The Lady Houns were victorious against Joplin in the first round of the Seneca Invitational, as well.
The girls moved on to face the hosts on Thursday and will be back in regular season action at Mt. Vernon on Monday. They'll then come home for another Big 8 East matchup against Reeds Spring next Thursday.
The Houn' Dawgs will play Seneca in Friday's homecoming game before traveling to Springfield Catholic on Tuesday. Next Friday's opponent at home will be Reeds Spring.
The Verona boys (16-4) were not in action this week but will be back on the court Friday at New Covenant Academy before traveling to Wheaton on Tuesday. They are scheduled to host Hartville next Thursday and Exeter next Friday, as well.
