Verona seniors Eddie Gutierrez and Caleb Hillhouse were named to the All-Tournament team after a strong showing in the Pierce City Tournament last week.

With a 78-66 win over East Newton, the Wildcats claimed third place in the season opening tourney. Hillhouse and Gutierrez led the team with 20 and 23 points, respectively, while Jaiden Carrasquillo scored 17 and Kolton Pinkly added 11. Anthony Martinez finished with seven points in the win. Hillhouse finished with a double-double after pulling down 11 rebounds, as well.

Coach Brad Stewart's team added its fourth win of the season with a 63-56 home victory on Tuesday against Sarcoxie. Hillhouse recorded another double-double, with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Carrasquillo added 14 points, while Pinkly scored 13. Gutierrez contributed eight points, while Martinez finished with three.

It was the team's second win over Sarcoxie already, as the Wildcats beat the Bears 59-57 to open the Pierce City tournament. Pinkly scored the game-winner with two seconds on the clock to advance to the semifinals. Hillhouse led the team with 18 points, while Gutierrez and Carrasquillo followed with 14 and 12, respectively. Pinkly finished with nine, while Martinez scored six.

The Wildcats will be in action at home again on Friday against Miller and on Tuesday against Greenfield.
