The Verona Lady Wildcats were fired up and ready to play Tuesday night, and it showed, as the team handily defeated the visiting Lady Comets from Marionville in straight sets.

Coach Brad Stewart's team took the court brimming with energy and enthusiasm that paid off early, as the Lady Wildcats took an early 4-1 lead in game one and seven of the first 10 points.

Marionville's Morgan Barrickman did all she could to keep her team in the game, but sloppy play overall by the Lady Comets helped the home team close out the opener by a score of 25-11.

Verona picked up where it left off after the side change, as junior Carolina Castillo put away an ace to make it 2-0 early in the second. But Marionville was able to keep it close through the early part game two, matching the Lady Wildcats point for point through the first 16.

Unfortunately for the visitors, errors came back to hurt, as Verona was gifted a run of points on Marionville mishits. After an ace by Verona's Hailee Wilkinson, the home team's energy was back in full force and didn't let up for the remainder of the match.

Marionville ultimately made it a closer game than the previous one, but Verona was still able to put the match to bed quickly, as a Wilkinson kill sealed the deal by a score of 25-15.

It was a second straight 0-2 loss for the Lady Comets, who fell by that score at Cassville on Monday. Coach Taylor Aurentz's team will look to get back to an even record with a road trip to Purdy on Monday.

For Stewart's team, the victory was its second 2-0 home win in a row, as the Lady Wildcats defeated Purdy last Thursday. Wilkinson led with nine kills and 12 digs on the night, while Rita Castillo added five kills and two aces. Carolina Castillo recorded 13 assists, and Sydney Gamroth accounted for 10 digs in Verona's bounce-back win after a three set loss earlier in the week.

The Lady Wildcats will be back in action at Miller on Tuesday and at home against Wheaton on Thursday.
