Nancy Jones Lowe, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 17 at the Arnold House in Stoneham, MA.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
She loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker and gardener. Nancy was very involved in her church, Calvary Episcopal Church in Columbia, and was a member of the Readers and Kings Daughters.
She was a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, and friend. Nancy grew up in New Bedford, MA. She graduated from Bates College and received a master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Latin and Classics. She taught at all levels throughout her working life from elementary school through University level.
Nancy was married to Henry Lowe for 63 years. They began their married life in Portland, OR, then moved to Columbia, where Henry taught at the University of Missouri Law School and Nancy taught Latin. Nancy and her husband Henry loved to travel. They always had a travel trailer and went all over the Rocky Mountains every summer. They made numerous trips abroad after they retired, every detail of which Nancy carefully planned. They spent as much time as they could at their vacation home in Snowmass, CO. They were both music lovers, and were actively involved in the Aspen Music Festival, where Nancy also served as a docent for many years giving tours of the festival grounds. They also planned their travels to include attending opera, orchestra, and chamber music concerts.
Nancy is survived by the families of her two children, Edie and Joe Auner of Medford, MA and Sandy and Georgia Lowe of Denver; and six grandchildren, Eric (and his wife Idy) and Mary Auner, and Harry, Christopher (and his wife Lily), Katherine, and George Lowe. Her sister, Mary Lou Brown lives in Seattle; and her brother, Thomas Jones, lives in Atlanta, GA. She was especially thankful to her niece, Karen Friedrich, for her loving attention at the end of her life.
