Howard Terry Bagby, age 94, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born August 20, 1923, in Aurora, the son of Russell and Ruth (Howard) Bagby.
Howard was a 1941 graduate of Aurora High School and he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II. Howard worked for the Aurora Bank, where he met his future wife, Jewell and retired from the Postal service as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church, the Aurora and Mt. Vernon golf league, Aurora American Legion, rural letter carriers association and United Commercial Travelers of America.
On April 8, 1949, he married Jewell Young in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Terry Bagby and his wife, Kim, of Aurora; five grandchildren, Tara Shoemaker and her husband Steven, of Aurora, Lesley Tima and her husband, Tony, of Brea, California, Lyndy Burtrum and her husband, James, of Monett, Kyle Bagby, of Aurora and Clayton Bagby and his wife, Mia, of Monett; seven great-grandchildren, Zac, Drew and Seth Shoemaker, Carson and Lauren Burtrum, Carter and Dominic Tima; son-in-law, Steve Carr, of Marionville and one cousin, Betty Bagby-Ash of Marion, Kansas.
His parents, Russell and Ruth, wife, Jewell, and daughter, Jean Ann Carr, preceded him in death.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, in Aurora was held at on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Missouri Veteran’s Home of Mt. Vernon, in care of the funeral home.
