Induction ceremonies for the charter Hall of Fame class at the Aurora Houn' Dawg Alumni and Outreach Center are on tap for approximately 7 p.m. Friday, January 12, at Aurora High School. The ceremonies will take place between games as the Houn’ Dawgs host the Monett Cubs in junior varsity and varsity basketball action.

Those scheduled to be honored include Ken Ackley, Fred Baum, the late Ed Cook and Eugene “Poss” Jackson. Ackley has been instrumental with creating and designing the Veterans Memorial in Maple Park Cemetery. Baum and Jackson are retired educators and coaches from Aurora High School and the late Ed Cook wore a variety of hats during his tenure with Aurora Schools. He even has the gymnasium at the old armory named after him.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame/Legacy Award induction ceremony is to honor past graduates, coaches, educators, support staff, community leaders and Houn’ Dawg patrons who have made a lasting impact on the school and community.

The Charter Class was chosen on the basis of that criteria by members of the Alumni Center Advisory Board and the Aurora High School Leadership Class. Also taken into consideration were tangible donations of time, resources and other forms of support as the Houn’ Dawg Alumni Center project was launched at the old armory site at 409 West Locust in the spring of 2016.

“Appreciation is extended from members of the alumni center committee to those honored, as well as their families, as their service to the school and community denotes compassion, devotion and love for all things Houn’ Dawg,” explained Kim McCully-Mobley, alumni outreach co-chair.

“We want the Hall of Fame wall to withstand the test of time with names, photos and bios of all of those who have helped us get to where we are today. Their stories and their legacies are important to us,” added Brad Boettler, alumni outreach co-chair.

Photos and bio-sketches of these winners will be on display at the Houn’ Dawg Alumni and Outreach Center, which is located at 409 West Locust or what is known by most as the old armory.

Future plans include a membership drive and a nomination process for additional Hall of Fame honorees. Please send an email to: to get on the list or join the Houn’ Dawg Alumni & Outreach Center Facebook page.

Advisory committee members include Kim McCully-Mobley, Brad Boettler, Michele Parbury, Bob Journagan, Jake McCully, Scott Pettit, Mark McCully, Scott Welch, Drew McNatt, Marcia Sadler, Jack Muench, Krista Boettler and Donna Meister.

Helping plan the festivities are members of this year’s pilot dual credit leadership class at AHS. Members of the Drury University course include Jessica Bussard, AllyBrighton Grosenbacher, Breanna Hopper and Luke Shoemaker.
