Mark your calendars -- plans are nearing completion for the 21st Annual Aurora Rotary Chili Supper.
The popular event will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, February 9, in the cafeteria at Aurora High School (305 West Prospect).
Homecoming festivities will be under way that night as the Aurora Houn’ Dawgs host Reeds Spring in junior varsity and varsity basketball action. Games begin at 6 p.m.
The $5 ticket will provide all-you-can-eat chili or soup, crackers, peanut butter sandwiches, dessert and a drink.
Proceeds are earmarked for college scholarships, the CHOICES program at Aurora Junior High and other community improvement efforts, such as the GRO 2.0 efforts launched through Aurora Economic Development.
Co-chairs for the event include Kim McCully-Mobley, Dr. Billy Redus, Dawn Marie Oplinger, Brenda Lakin and Jake McCully.
Tickets are available from Rotary members and can also be purchased at the door.
Carry-out orders can be picked up at the north entrance behind the building. Patrons can bring their own containers or obtain containers provided by Rotary, while supplies last.
Aurora’s Rotary Club is one of the community’s oldest civic organizations. It has been instrumental in promoting a variety of projects and efforts for Main Street, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Aurora Schools, Heritage Harmony House, Aurora Beautification and Aurora Economic Development.
Typically, Rotarians deliver Meals on Wheels each Tuesday and also provide dictionaries to area third graders each year. The club sponsors a CHOICES program for junior high students. The curriculum is designed to help foster healthy decision-making practices. Jake McCully is the current Rotary president. The club has about 30 active members.

Representatives from the Youth Empowerment Leadership Class and Zeros4Heroes will also be available to provide assistance throughout the evening. The Aurora Rotary Club received a YEP grant to help offset the cost of hosting the event.
