The Gamma Gamma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi ended one sorority year and began another recently. Those who graciously accepted to be officers were:

President -- Jane Baker Vice president -- Jean Smith Recording secretary -- Judy Kitchen Corresponding secretary -- Sue Byers Treasurer -- Marilyn Carey Extension officer -- Linda Tinker

Awards presented for the past year included Valentine Queen -- Shirley Willard; Woman of the Year -- Linda Tinker; Program of the Year -- Mary Burleson, with her “Granny Mary” talk about growing up in the coal fields of West Virginia; Perfect Attendance -- Ruth Linneman, who has also done a wonderful job in her first year in Beta Sigma Phi, especially with some excellent programs and coordinating the social outings.

Our annual scholarship was presented to Kalli Bolger at the May 18 Aurora High School Awards Assembly. She is planning to be a doctor.

We said a fond farewell to a dear sister Yvonne Schellen, as she moved back to Lincoln, Nebraska, after the recent death of her husband, Mike. We will miss both of them. Yvonne is a gracious, kind, and hard-working lady and has done a wonderful job in our chapter.

Plans are underway for the coming year. We are looking forward to some of our annual activities like salad suppers, Ice Cream Social, a Hayride, shows and concerts, card parties, lunches out, holiday celebrations and, of course, our Santa Letters project.

We appreciate your support for the Santa Letters as our proceeds go to our annual scholarship, as well as donations to the following organizations: Nurses Fund at Bright Futures, Friends of the Library, Relay for Life, Beta Sigma Phi Endowment Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Convoy of Hope, the Oats Bus, Channel 21 and the “Pet Project.”

We’re looking forward to another fun and rewarding year.
