Last Friday's Bell Bowl Game between the Aurora Houn' Dawgs and Mt. Vernon Mountaineers did not go at all the way the home fans would have hoped, as Aurora suffered its third loss of the season at the hands of its biggest rival. With the 28-0 shutout loss, the Houn' Dawgs fell to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Big 8 East Conference.
The defeat continued a pattern for the Dawgs so far on the season -- Aurora has lost all three home games and won both games on the road. Coach Craig Weldy's team will look to continue the pattern for one more week at least, as the Dawgs travel to play Springfield Catholic on Friday.
Junior Jay Lee was 14-29 for 145 yards passing against the Mt'neers with one interception and no touchdowns. The junior had a rough night carrying the ball, finishing with negative 11 yards on 13 carries.
Senior Casey Weathermon fared the best of the Aurora rushing effort, totaling 35 yards on five carries. Senior Kaden Clark led the receivers with three catches for 51 yards.
Clark also led the defense with 12 total tackles, including four solos. Senior Isaac Martinez and junior Dylan Clayton recorded a team-high five solo tackles each. Senior Dalton Thornton recorded a sack for the defense, while Martinez and freshman Kohl Rohlman each contributed an interception.
