The Aurora Houn’ Dawgs suffered another season loss on January 31 on their home court. The Dawgs fell 45-53 to their East Newton opponents.
Aurora took the early lead in the first quarter with Garrett Bader and Jordan Fronabarger each making two points to put Aurora up 4-0.
East Newton eventually caught up, and the two teams battled back and forth for the lead for the remainder of the quarter. The quarter ended in East Newton’s favor 17-11.
Aurora fought hard to regain the lead in the second quarter and outscored East Newton 13 to six.
East Newton managed to hang on to the lead until the end of the quarter. East Newton had a technical called against them as the buzzer sounded giving Andrew Parker three shots.
Parker made all three shots to give Aurora a slight 24-23 lead.
The Dawgs held on to the lead in the third quarter, making another eight points in the first four minutes compared to East Newton’s four.
East Newton was able to tie the score up at 32 all with just under two minutes left. Clayton Sumners posted a pair of two-pointers in the final two minutes and Aurora finished the quarter with a 36-32 lead.
East Newton had a surge on offense at the beginning of the fourth quarter to go ahead of Aurora 41-36.
Aurora struggled to put the ball in the net for the remainder of the quarter, only scoring another nine points.
East Newton had a total of 21 points for the quarter which earned it the 53-45 win.
Parker led in points for the game with a final total of 10. Corey Gregory and Sumners each had nine points, while Bader and Jesse Galloway finished with six points each. Jordan Fronabarger had three points for the game and McClain Rapp had two points.
