The Aurora Lady Houns traveled to Neosho for the first game of the season on August 31. Aurora won in two games with scores of 25-16 and 25-22.
Coach Tisha Fronabarger said it was a great way to open the season.
“These girls worked together and played hard,” she said. “I am very proud of them.”
Rachel Crockett had four kills and four blocks; Paige Johnson had nine assists, two aces and one kill; and Emilee Roy had seven defensive digs and two aces.
The junior varsity girls won two of three sets. Kaliegh Brown had eight kills and four blocks, Brooke Miller had three aces and one kill, and Jordan Hall had five kills and one ace.
“The girls played well and pulled together to fight for a win for their season opener,” Fronabarger said.
Aurora first home game is against Mt. Vernon on September 9. Fronabarger said everyone is encouraged to wear red to the rivalry game. Sonic is providing bottled water for the players, and varsity starters will throw out mini volleyballs.
“We are really excited to have our first home game,” Fronabarger said.
Fronabarger and assistant coach Monica McVey thanks the community for the support. The coaches will have a letter in a future edition of The Aurora Advertiser for important recognition of community members and businesses.
