The Aurora tennis girls participated in their first back-to-back home matches of the season on August 19-20 against Carthage and Monett. Aurora’s varsity girls suffered losses in both contests, while the junior varsity squad defeated its Carthage opponents and fell to Monett.
Aurora vs Carthage
Aurora’s varsity was defeated 2-7 by Carthage’s varsity team. Aubrey Brite was the only singles winner of the match defeating her opponent 8-4. Brite plays in the No. 6 spot for Aurora. Brite later teamed up with Izabella Zellers in No. 3 doubles play to secure the only varsity doubles win, 8-6.
In other varsity singles action, Natalie Phipps lost 2-8, Sarah Burnett fell 3-8, Calli Claybough was defeated 3-8, Lizzully Canales suffered a 2-8 loss, and Zellers lost 2-8. In doubles play, Phipps and Claybough were defeated 3-8, while Burnett and Canales suffered a narrow 5-8 loss.
The JV girls saw more success on the courts with an overall 7-5 win. In singles play, Ashton Gaddy and Audrey Perrin shut out their opponents 6-0. Katie Pennell pulled off a narrow 7-5 victory, while Courtney Thrasher and Shay Sanches each won their singles matches 6-4. In other singles play, Jacqui Davis lost 2-6, and Cassie Prikryl fell 1-6.
Pennell and Gaddy teamed up for a 6-2 doubles win, while Perrin and Thrasher defeated their opponents 6-4. Davis and Prikryl lost their doubles match 4-6; teammates Sanches and Erica Cubel suffered a similar 4-6 loss in their doubles match. Maricarmen Trejo and Haley Graham rounded off the match with a 1-6 loss.

Brite picked up her third varsity singles win, defeating her opponent 8-6. Brite is now 3-0 in varsity singles play. Zellers also earned the victory at the No. 5 spot, defeating her opponent 8-2. Brite and Zellers also won their doubles match 8-5. The duo improved their record to 2-0 in doubles action.
