Aurora scored one run in the third inning with Hejna scoring. The Lady Houns put up another five runs in the fourth after Zoe DeMoss, Brittany Kregar, Hejna, Davis and Ashlyn Hilton scored.
Coach Darin Meinders said it was a good start to the tournament, and everyone got to play. Alecia Crowley and Baylee Hilton pitched for Aurora.
The second game was against Monett. The Lady Houns held the Lady Cubs to three in the third inning, but Aurora could put runs on the board. Meinders said it was a tough loss. The Lady Houns out-hit Monett, but two errors in the third hurt Aurora, he said.
“I’m proud of how we battled back in the sixth and seventh to put runners in scoring position,” Meinders said.
Hejna pitched seven innings. Monett won 3-0.
Aurora then faced Pleasant Hope for third place. Meinders said Pleasant Hope was the first seed in the tournament and a final four team last year.
Aurora put up one run in the first with Baylee Hilton making it home. The Lady Houns scored again in the third, fourth and seventh innings for the 5-3 win.
DeMoss, Ashlyn Hilton, Crowley and Sydney Shoemaker scored for the Lady Houns in the remaning innings.
Hejna again was the pitcher for Aurora.
