The Lady Comets softball team opened with some first-game jitters on August 23 in a face-off with Southwest, but it didn't take long for pitcher Anna Brown to find her groove and the rest fell into place.
The Lady Comets were down two in the first inning but held Southwest scoreless until the top of the third. Marionville trailed 0-3 with Ashleigh Gold up to bat. She sent a grounder to left field for a double. Jessica Duda got on base with a walk. As Duda attempted to steal second, Gold scored Marionville's first run.
Marionville tied it up at three all with Aubree Brown and Anna Brown scoring in the fourth. Southwest pulled ahead by one in the fifth, but the Lady Comets scored three in the fifth to go up 6-4. Duda, Kenzie Murphy and Ina Gottsleben scored.
Marionville finished the game with the 6-4 win. The girls travel to Wheaton on Thursday.
