Members of Aurora’s soccer team, coached by Curtis Bishop, opened their season at home on August 30, taking on the Bolivar Liberators. The Houn’ Dawgs displayed strong effort, but fell to the Liberators 0-5.
The game began with Aurora in possession of the ball. However, Bolivar quickly took control pushing the Dawgs into defensive play.
The Liberators initially fired multiple shots on goal, but were unable to land any shots. Aurora had a brief run on offense eight minutes into the first half that led to Johnny Lindeman firing a wide shot on goal. Bolivar answered Lindeman’s shot with a goal of their own to take the lead 1-0 10 minutes into the half.
Aurora continued to hold strong defensively with goalie Bryce Hill protecting the goal and the defensive line covering the field well shutting down several advances from the Liberators.
Up front, Sergio Rodriguez and Johnny Lindeman worked together to put together some offensive runs but were unable to find the back of the net. The Liberators picked up another goal before the end of the half to increase their lead to 2-0.
The Liberators came out aggressive in the second half putting offensive pressure on the Aurora defense. Mason Hill, Beki Breshears and Cody Corcoran were key defensively on the field for the Dawgs for the entire game and continued their aggressive play in the second half.
Bryce Hill made a number of good saves in the goal, and the Liberators were unable to add to their total until 15 minutes into the half. Bolivar picked up three more goals in a space of 10 minutes to increase its lead to 5-0.
Aurora had a couple of good offensive attempts led by Rodriguez in the final minutes of the half, but the Bolivar goalie was able to stop the shots. Bryce Hill racked up 15 total saves by the conclusion of the second half. The game ended in Bolivar’s favor 5-0.
