The Aurora Lady Houns gave up early runs against McDonald County on August 24, but they were able to be within one until the fifth inning. Aurora then gave up another six runs in the game for a 2-9 loss.
Aurora had two errors in the first inning that cost the Lady Houns two runs, allowing McDonald County to go up 3-0. Aurora held McDonald County for the next few innings while the Lady Houns rattled the bats. Aurora got on base, but it was in the bottom of the third that Aurora put up two runs.
Karsyn Hejna pitched the seven innings for Aurora, allowing four walks, four earned runs and eight hits. She had two strikeouts.
Zoe DeMoss was the first to get on base. DeMoss advanced to second and eventually scored after Baylee Hilton sent a grounder up the third-base line to left field for a double. She scored the second run after stealing third and Hejna sacrificed a fly to center. Aurora ended the inning down by one with the score set at 2-3.
Aurora was unable to get on the board during the rest of the game, but McDonald County scored two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh with Aurora. The Lady Houns had three errors in the seventh inning.
Coach Darin Meinders said the girls had a great effort while facing a very good team. Aurora put the ball in play, which is what he wanted the girls to do.
“Had six errors and two wild pitches that we need to clean up, but a lot of bright spots,” he said, adding he wanted to thank everyone who came to the game to support the Lady Houns.
