The Marionville Comets went 2-3 in the MidLakes Conference after suffering two consecutive losses to Fair Grove on February 12 and Strafford on February 16.
Marionville vs. Fair Grove
Marionville couldn’t get shots to fall during its match-up with Fair Grove, while Fair Grove didn’t have a problem finding open shots and forcing turnovers. The game ended with Marionville losing 33-48.
Marionville started slow in the first half by only scoring 13 points. Drew Setzer, Ryan Combs, Caleb Wells and Landen Metcalf kept the Comets afloat, but Fair Grove scored 24 points in the first half off with points coming from steals and layups. The Eagles also found time on the free throw after making baskets, giving Fair Grove extra points.
Fair Grove continued in the second half with pushing the ball up the floor and finding open shots. By the end of the third quarter, the Eagles led 34-22.
Fair Grove kept Marionville in single digits in the third quarter, while Marionville allowed the Eagles to score 10 points. Jordan Dykes, Combs, Metcalf, Wells and Setzer were Marionville’s scorers in the third quarter.
Marionville put up 11 points in the fourth quarter, but Fair Grove maintained its lead by putting up 14 points in the quarter. Marionville started the fourth quarter strong with Setzer scoring on a two-point shot and a free throw. Justin Henson added four points in the fourth quarter. The other scorer in the quarter was Dykes.

The Comets held tough against the Indians through most of the game, but they started sluggish in the fourth quarter and were unable to recover.
Strafford did open with a six-point run before Marionville scored with Dykes sinking a long two-point shot. The Comets didn’t push the ball up the floor early in the first quarter, but they ended the quarter only down by two. Metcalf and Combs also were scorers in the first quarter.
Marionville turned up the pressure in the second quarter with better defense and forced several turnovers, but the Comets also suffered turnovers of their own. With a three pointer by Wells and a drive by Henson, Marionville was in the lead early in the second quarter.
The Comets continued to score on baskets from Henson, Dykes and Setzer to end the first half up by one and the score at 28-27.
Marionville fell behind the Indians to be down 36-40 at the end of the third quarter. Combs led the Comets in the quarter by scoring of rebounds while Dykes added a jumper.

Strafford led by as much as 10 at one point in the fourth quarter, but Combs, Henson and Setzer helped bring Marionville within five. A three pointer by Wells with less than 15 seconds left in the game kept Marionville within five, but Strafford ultimately won 58-53.
