With district play on the horizon next week, the Aurora Houn' Dawgs have built some confidence with a pair of wins following a rainout early last week.
Coach Curtis Bishop's team easily handled Thomas Jefferson last Thursday, winning 10-0, and then won a tough match with state-ranked New Covenant Academy by a score of 1-0.
In the matchup against Thomas Jefferson, three Houn' Dawgs recorded multiple goals, including Lester Perez, who bagged a hat trick and an assist. Jordani Perez and Diego Garcia-Ortega each added two goals and an assist, while Spencer Briggs, Kris Lopez and Jaesik Friggle scored one goal apiece. Friggle was the only goal-scorer not to record an assist as well.
Sam Salas chipped in with three assists on the day, while Patrick Reyes recorded the clean sheet with five saves to his name.
After the game, Bishop said the contest "went very well for us and allowed us to work on some things we have been implementing to get ready for the playoffs."
In Monday's match against state-ranked New Covenant, the Houn' Dawgs took down the 16-6 Warriors on a second-half goal by Jordani Perez.
"It has been an up and down season with consistency," said Bishop ahead of the district tournament, "but the players are always playing hard and with good effort and they are showing signs of coming together offensively and defensively."
The Houn' Dawgs consistency and cohesiveness will be put to the test next week, as Aurora enters Class 2 District 9 play as the third seed. See the bracket for details of the tournament taking place next week at Monett.
