In their final regular season game on home turf this season, the Marionville Comets fell 29-22 to Southwest Conference foe Sarcoxie. The loss gives the Comets a 3-4 overall record on the season and a 2-3 record in the conference.
Marionville scored first on the night but the Bears came back with the next two touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead. It was a back-and-forth contest from then, as Marionville tied the game at 14, but Sarcoxie added two points on a safety to make it 16-14.
The Comets scored one more touchdown to take a 22-16 lead, but the visitors added two more TDs down the stretch to secure the win.
Junior quarterback Wyatt Kuhs completed 14 of his 22 pass attempts for 150 yards, one touchdown and one interception on the night. Five Comets caught at least two passes for Marionville, as Kyle Brattin led with 57 yards on three catches and a touchdown.
Jeremy Vickers again led the rushing effort, with 17 carries for 90 yards and one TD. Kuhs also scored a touchdown on the ground on his only carry.
Defensively, Vickers and Ty Bick led the tackling effort with 11 total tackles each. Vickers racked up 10 solo tackles, including two for a loss, while Bick recorded the one sack on the night for the Comets.
Marionville will be on the road for the final two weeks of the regular season, starting with a trip to Ash Grove on Friday. The Pirates have a 2-5 record through seven weeks.
