On a rainy night for Week 3 action, the Marionville Comets and Aurora Houn' Dawgs were both defeated at home, giving both teams an overall record of 1-2 to begin the season.

Marionville

In their first game of Southwest Conference play, the Comets were deadlocked with Lockwood for four quarters and fell in overtime 8-0.

Senior Alex Gracia recorded a team-high 113 yards on 25 carries, while junior Jeremy Vickers added 49 yards on 16 carries. Gracia and junior Wyatt Kuhs were a combined 9-13 passing for just 58 yards.

Defensively, senior evan Dotson led the tackling effort with 13 total tackles, including seven solos. Junior Ty Bick recorded a sack for one of his six tackles, and senior Will Jones was credited with an interception.

After the tough loss, Marionville will look to even its record with another home game on Friday, as the Comets face Greenfield in a non-conference game on Homecoming.

Aurora

The Houn' Dawgs found themselves in familiar territory at the end of a matchup with Lamar, falling 43-7 against the seven-time defending Class 2 state champs. The Tigers scored 14 points in each quarter of the first half and 15 in the third. Aurora outscored the visitors in the fourth quarter 7-0, but it was far from enough to challenge the Tiger lead.

Junior Jay Lee was responsible for the Dawgs' only touchdown, on one of his 10 carries. In the passing game, Lee completed just three of his 16 passes for a total of 34 yards with two interceptions.

Junior Peyton Weathermon led the running game with 11 carries for 29 yards, while brother Casey (senior) recorded 32 yards on two receptions.

Seniors Kaden Clark and Isaac Martinez led the defense with nine and eight total tackles, respectively. Senior Logan Lauffer added six total tackles and caused a fumble.

Aurora will go on the road Friday in search of its second win, facing Logan-Rogersville in its first Big 8 East contest.
