The Aurora Houn' Dawgs put up 33 unanswered points in the first half of last Friday's game at East Newton to beat the Patriots and move to 1-1 on the young season.
Coach Craig Weldy's team got off to a good start, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter to lead 14-0 after one period. The Houn' Dawgs added 19 more points in the second to take a commanding lead at halftime, 33-0.
Neither team would find the end zone in the second half, giving Aurora its first win in a shutout on the road to build confidence ahead of this week's contest against Lamar.
Four Houn' Dawgs scored rushing touchdowns on the night, including senior Logan Lauffer, who led the team with 80 yards on four carries. Peyton Weathermon, Isaac Martinez and Jay Lee each ran one in, as well.
Lee also added a touchdown pass, a 35-yard completion to Casey Weathermon for six points. Lee was 5-10 for 93 yards through the air on the night. Kaden Clark was the leading receiver, with three catches for 92 yards.
On defense, Clark and C. Weathermon were the leading tacklers, with 11 total tackles each. The Dawgs racked up four sacks on the night, two by Dalton Thornton and one each by Weathermon and Jeff Simpson. Lauffer and Martinez each recorded an interception on East Newton, as well.
Pablo Reyes was 3-for-4 on PAT attempts, totaling three points for the Houn' Dawgs.
