The Aurora Lady Houns softball team is 0-3 after three games to begin the 2018 season, including a heartbreaking 12-11 loss on a 10th-inning walk-off at Hartville.
After an 11-1 loss at Hillcrest to start the season last Friday, the Lady Houns went down 2-0 after one inning at Hartville. They came back to take a 5-2 lead in the next half-inning, but Hartville tied the game back up by the end of the fourth.
Aurora scored another five-spot in the fifth inning to take a 10-5 lead, but the hosts again narrowed the gap to 10-8 in the sixth. Another run by the Lady Houns in the seventh left the defense with just three outs to get to secure a win, but the home team scored three runs to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
After two and a half scoreless innings, Hartville put a runner in scoring position on a one-out triple in the bottom of the 10th. Four batters later, a single to center scored the winning run for the home team, leaving Aurora to continue to search for its first win.
Morgan Sanborn led the Lady Houns with three hits, while Jacelyn Brinley and Kaysie Carr added two each. Carr, Chloe Ryan and Bethany Rogers each recorded two RBI, while Autumn Danforth and Sanborn each scored a pair of runs.
In the circle, Rogers pitched the full game, allowing seven earned runs on 14 hits and striking out 14.
Aurora followed up Monday's game with a 13-4 loss to Logan-Rogersville at home on Tuesday. The Lady Houns led 4-1 through three innings, but the Lady Wildcats scored 12 unanswered runs en route to the win. Ten errors by the Lady Houns turned out to be the difference-maker on the day.
Rogers recorded three RBI and a run on one hit to lead the offense and took the loss in the circle, throwing seven innings and allowing three earned runs on 10 hits.
After a trip to Lamar on Thursday, the Lady Houns will be back at home on Tuesday to face Monett.
