In its second season of competition, the Aurora cross country program fielded a team of five girls and two boys going into the Big 8 Conference meet, where it finished in fifth place under coach Melanie Crockett.
Throughout the season, the team had a handful of medal winners, including 11th and 13th place finishes by Robert Berg and Carson Barr, respectively, in the second meet of the season.
At the Monett meet on September 12, Lillie Bodeen medaled in the class 3/4A varsity women's competition, finishing 17th. She then brought home a first place medal in the junior varsity competition at the Lamar meet. Savannah Miller was the fourth place finisher in the same race.
At Hermitage, Bodeen and Miller finished seventh and ninth, respectively, while Aubrey Boatwright was the sixth place medalist. The Springfield Catholic meet saw three medalists for Aurora in early October, as Barr, Miller and Bodeen all finished in the top 20.
Coach Crockett sees the season as a successful one and is looking forward to next year already.
"We are looking to the future for this team. We hope to have our first meet at Honey Creek next fall, at the beginning of the season," she said. "We are hoping to grow our team and consistently field a full girls and boys team [next] fall. The athletes are motivated to improve through off season workouts together."
"I feel like the team was supportive and really worked hard to improve their times throughout the season," said Crockett, who hopes to have the cross country athletes join her in the spring for track season, as well.
