A year after claiming the title of state champions, the Aurora cheerleading squads returned to the state competitions last weekend, earning top five finishes and an All-State honor for one varsity team member.

Aimee England-Montalvo was named as an All-State Cheerleader during Session 3 of the Missouri Cheer Coaches' Association State Cheer Championships on Sunday. She was nominated for the honor along with seniors Lexi Johnson and Melissa Tate by their coach, KayLynn Pennell. The All-State nominees were judged by a panel of judges while they competed in the team competition this weekend. All-State cheerleaders were judged on stunting skills, tumbling, overall routine and showmanship.

The Aurora High School Varsity Cheer squad competed at the State Competition in the 3 Small Varsity division after winning the Southwest Regional Championship this summer in Ozark. The team performed a perfect routine during a session in which many schools had music issues, ultimately earning a third place finish.

The varsity squad plans to complete its competition season in January with a trip to the NCA High School and Junior High Cheer Championships in Dallas, where they will compete in the Intermediate Small Game Day Division.

The Aurora High School Junior Varsity Cheer squad also competed at the State Competition in the JV Small division and earned a fifth place finish.
