A successful season for the Aurora Houn' Dawgs came to an early end on Monday as the Dawgs fell 2-1 in the district semifinals at Logan-Rogersville.
Aurora came into the game as the higher seed against the host team, but after falling 3-0 to the Wildcats earlier in the season, coach Curtis Bishop's team knew it had a tough task ahead.
The Wildcats put up the first goal of the game with around 10 minutes to go in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Patrick Reyes and the Aurora defense did well to keep the deficit at one throughout the rest of the first half and well into the second, allowing the offense to push for an equalizer.
The Houn' Dawgs finally knotted the score at 1-1 on a goal by senior Denny Mayne, but the excitement was short-lived as Rogersville took back the lead a minute later.
Unfortunately for the Houn' Dawgs, the 2-1 score would hold until the final whistle, ending their season with an overall record of 15-7.
While the team didn't finish the season where it hoped, this fall was undoubtedly a successful one for Bishop's squad. With two thrilling overtime wins and first place finishes in the Cassville and Thomas Jefferson tournaments, the Dawgs gave their school and fans plenty to be proud of this season.
In addition to Mayne, three other seniors will be moving on from the program before next fall. Gavin McFee, Alex Hamelink and Miguel Gallardo will all be missed by the Houn' Dawgs as the 2018 season rolls around.
