The 2017 softball season came to a close last Wednesday for the Aurora Lady Houns, as the team fell by a score of 15-0 to Nevada.
With the game originally scheduled to be played in Monett, a rainy day forced tournament organizers to move the game to Aurora's artificial turf field. Unfortunately for the Lady Houns, the home-field advantage did not help their cause, as the team was held hitless over four innings of play.
Nevada took a 7-0 lead in the first inning and added five more runs in the second to make it 12-0. After a scoreless third, the Lady Tigers added three in the bottom of the fourth to end the game -- and the Lady Houns' season -- on the 15-run rule.
The Lady Houns finished the season with an overall record of 6-20, unfortunately going winless in Big 8 Conference play.
Two Aurora sophomores were named to the All-Conference team, however. Jessie Conran made the First Team as a designated player, while Chloe Ryan made honorable mention as an infielder.
Coach James Hoffman's team will look next year to build on this season's experience, as only three seniors -- Faithlynn Jung, Cheyanne Eutsler and Paige Sturgell -- will move on at the end of the school year.
