The Marionville Lady Comets defeated Forsyth in two sets on Monday, winning 25-20 and 25-23 in a close contest on non-conference teams.
The Lady Comets began the first set on a hot streak, scoring the first five points before the Lady Panthers came back with six straight to make it 6-5. After a bad serve by Forsyth and an ace by senior Tori LaSalle, though, the home team regained the 7-6 lead.
The set remained close, however, as the teams traded scoring streaks before the Lady Comets eventually took over the lead for good and held off a late comeback attempt by Forsyth to win by five.
The second game was even more closely-contested, as Marionville took an early 5-1 lead before Forsyth scored the next five to make it 6-5.
Service errors on both sides were the theme of the set, but the Lady Comets overcame the difficulties to hang on to a slight lead late, eventually winning the match on a tip by LaSalle.
The win was Marionville's third of the season, giving the Lady Comets a 3-10 overall record. The team will look to improve on that mark with a road match at Hurley on Monday and a home matchup with Skyline on Tuesday. The team's final regular season match will be on the road at Spokane next Thursday.
