The Aurora Houn' Dawgs recorded their first Big 8 Conference win of the season last week with a 52-25 victory at East Newton. Junior Logan Lauffer accounted for half of the eight touchdowns for Aurora on the night.

Lauffer scored three of five Aurora touchdowns in the first quarter, with senior Clayton Dunning and junior Casey Weathermon scoring the others. The Houn' Dawgs led comfortably after the first period, 34-6.

The visitors added two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, thanks to junior Isaac Martinez and senior Blake Williams, to make it 46-13 at the end of the half.

East Newton outscored the Dawgs in the second half, scoring a touchdown in each quarter compared to one by Aurora, Lauffer's fourth. But the Houn' Dawg lead was more than enough to secure the conference win and improve to 2-2 on the season.

Lauffer's four TDs and 265 all-purpose yards led the offense on the night, followed by 101 total yards by Dunning. Senior quarterback John Dakota Lee completed four passes on the night -- two for touchdowns -- for 137 yards.

Lauffer also led on the defensive end with eight total tackles, including seven solos, and an interception for a touchdown. Sophomores Dylan Clayton and Peyton Weathermon and Williams added six tackles each, while junior Colson Husmann recorded a sack.

The Houn' Dawgs will look to record their third road win of the season on Friday as they travel to Monett to face the defending state champion Cubs.
