The Aurora Houn’ Dawgs opened play in the Cassville Tournament on Tuesday with a 7-0 win against Thomas Jefferson. Senior Miguel Gallardo opened his scoring campaign this season with a hat trick in the victory.

The tournament win was a good bounce-back game for the Houn’ Dawgs, as the team dropped its season opener 4-1 at home against Bolivar last Friday.

The Dawgs struggled to maintain possession against a strong Liberator team, falling behind 3-0 in the first half. A second-half, unassisted goal by Denny Mayne kept the Dawgs from getting shut out, but Aurora could not muster enough offense to make the game any closer.

Junior Cannon Shirley recorded eight saves for the Houn’ Dawgs on the game.

Aurora continues the Cassville Tournament through Saturday, then continues regular season play with a home match against New Covenant Academy on Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
