As the regular season winds down for the Aurora Lady Houns soccer season, the team is in its best form of the year, picking up back-to-back wins at home.
The Lady Houns won their second game of the season last Friday, defeating Greenwood 4-1. After 10 minutes of scoreless play, Aurora got on the board first with a goal by junior Leslie Salas.
The Aurora offense continued to attack well but was unable to score again until senior Samantha Sharpe found the back of the net with just under seven minutes remaining in the half. The first period ended with the Lady Houns leading two goals to nil.
Greenwood struck back 10 minutes in to the second half, cutting the lead to 2-1, but the Lady Houns continued to put pressure on the opposing defense.
A number of shots were saved or off target for the next 20 minutes, but Sharpe found the goal again with nine minutes remaining. She then finished off the hat trick with a header goal to make it a 4-1 game.
A pair of saves in stoppage time by senior goalkeeper Victoria Johnson maintained the lead to give Aurora the win.
The Lady Houns followed up Friday's win with a senior night victory on Monday. Aurora defeated Monett 4-2, more than a month after falling to the Lady Cubs 2-1. Sharpe again led the attack, scoring four unassisted goals.
The team will compete in the Class 2, District 10 tournament this weekend, beginning with an 11 a.m. game against host team and top seed Springfield Catholic.
