The Marionville Lady Comets opened play this week with wins over Lockwood and Fair Grove to improve to 5-8 overall this season.

At home on Monday, the Lady Comets took the lead early with two runs in the bottom of the first before adding five more in the third. Lockwood would come back with three in the fourth, but Marionville added another in its half of the inning to maintain a 6-3 lead.

The visitors scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth, but coach Mark Estep's team put up four runs in each of those innings to keep a comfortable lead. The Lady Comets eventually earned a 16-8 win.

Kymbra Kirby led the offense on the day with four RBI and two runs on two hits. Emily Garoutte added three hits, two runs and one RBI, while Desiree Sherman accounted for two hits and one RBI.

Madylon Davis and Tori LaSalle scored three runs each, while Morgan Barrickman crossed the plate four times. Each had one hit and one RBI. Bayleigh Finn contributed one hit and two runs, while Kaylee Neveln added a hit and an RBI.

On the mound, Garoutte was the winning pitcher, throwing four and two-thirds innings. She allowed five runs on six hits and struck out three. Alexus Buckert came on in relief for the last two and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

Marionville needed a comeback for a win at Fair Grove on Tuesday, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to record a 7-3 win.

Five Lady Comets recorded two hits on the day: Garoutte (one run), LaSalle (one run), Kirby (one run, one RBI), Sherman (two runs, one RBI) and Neveln (one run, two RBI). Kelsie Grimm added two RBI on one hit, as well.

Garoutte went all seven innings in the circle, allowing just three hits for the win.

The Lady Comets will be back at home next Wednesday for a Mid Lakes Conference matchup with Skyline.
