A strong showing in the field events helped propel the Aurora girls' track team to a second place finish at Republic on Monday, finishing behind only the host team.
Cheyanne Eutsler finished first in the discus competition and second in the shot put, while Baylee Husmann took home first in the javelin throw and Natalie Wallace was the top finisher in the long jump. Emily Moore rounded out the strong field performance with a second place finish in the javelin and fourth in the shot put.
Taking home first place medals in the running events were Kaysie Carr (100-meter hurdles) and Brooke Bellamy (400-meter dash). They each also took third in other events (300-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash, respectively).
The 4x200-meter relay team of Bellamy, Moore, Wallace and Husmann finished second, while the 4x400 team of Wallace, Bellamy, Ashley Vaught and Shayline Winkler was the fourth place finisher.
Husmann and Wallace also finished fifth and seventh in the 100-meter dash, respectively.
On the boys' side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Isaac Martinez, Shawn Pennell, Logan Lauffer and Jeff Simpson was the highlight of the day, taking home first place. The same group also ran to a second place finish in the 4x200. In the 4x800, the team of Austin Hartswigsen, Michael Pruitt, Robert Berg and Jeff Bodeen finished third.
In the individual events, three Aurora athletes took home fourth place: Bodeen in the 800-meter run, Lauffer in the 200-meter dash and Pennell in the 400-meter dash.
Martinez led the field event finishers for the Houn' Dawgs with a third place performance in the long jump. Brendan Castleberry brought home two fourth place finishes, in the shot put and discus throws. Additionally, Connor Savage finished sixth in the javelin throw, while Hartswigsen was sixth in the triple jump.
The Aurora boys finished sixth overall as a team. Both teams will compete at Reeds Spring on Tuesday before hosting the Ice Box Relays next Thursday.
