Bunceton sophomore Blake Petsel didn’t need an introduction Tuesday night against the Otterville Eagles in a battle of former CCAA foes.
Although the Dragons entered the game winless in two starts, Petsel made sure his team didn’t pick up its third loss of the season by going a perfect 4-for-4 with two singles, two doubles and one RBI to lead Bunceton past Otterville 14-4.
Of course it didn’t hurt that Bunceton put up three runs in the first inning or that the Dragons out-hit the Eagles 14-4. Bunceton also played flawlessly in the field while Otterville booted the ball around for five errors.
Nonetheless, the Dragons looked entirely different than a team with a 0-2 record by pushing across three runs or more in four out of the six innings.
Eli Pearcy also looked sharp for four innings by striking out eight batters and giving up only two hits and four walks. And while Pearcy exited the game after four, Riley Layne came in and struck out five batters while giving up one run on two hits and two walks.
Neal took the loss for Otterville by giving up nine runs on 11 hits and four walks in five innings. He also struck out four batters.
As for the hitting in the game for Bunceton, Austin Anderson went 3-for-4 with two singles, one double and one RBI. Brayden Doyle was 2-for-3 with two singles and four RBIs while Riley Layne added two singles and three RBIs, Layne Maddex with two singles and Jordan Angermeyer with one single.
Otterville was led by Mathews with two singles and three RBIs.
