The Blue Springs South boys swimming and diving team added another state berth in a dual loss at Park Hill Tuesday.
The Jaguars won four events and the 400-yard freestyle relay qualified for state, but Park Hill won 98-87.
“We had a group of guys that performed well swimming in some different events,” South coach Errich Oberlander said. “I thought we competed with a good Park Hill team, especially considering some of the challenging practices I have put them through this week. We are starting one of our more grueling stretches of practices, and I thought what we did tonight showed good promise for the rest of the season.”
The 400 free relay squad of Kyle Hepting, Jake Workman, Chase Graham and Ben Morgan earned a state cut with a second-place finish in 3 minutes, 28.51 seconds.
The Jaguars swept the top three spots in diving, with Alex Burt (280.55) topping teammates Cole Greashaber (258.40) and Kevin Schlenger (228.25).
Aaron Wedel took first in the 500 freestyle (5:16.46). The 200 medley relay of Morgan, Adam Ryan, Graham and Hepting won in 1:45.42, and 200 freestyle relay team of Nick Keller, Daniel Ward, Ryan and Workman prevailed in 1:35.94.
Graham took second in the 100 butterfly (56.62) and 100 backstroke (59.99), and Workman (200 free, 1:57.36) and Morgan (50 free, 23.45) also claimed runner-up finishes.
