Battled with composure is what Ryan Yates had to say about his Verona Lady Wildcats after the two teams vied for the Class 1 District 6 championship title on March 5. The two teams were neck and neck in the first half, and it all came down to the fourth quarter.

The Marionville Comets led by eight going into the fourth quarter in the match-up with Purdy on March 5, but that lead dwindled and the Comets were forced to battle for the chance to move on to the championship game in the Class 2 District 10 Tournament.

The Verona Lady Wildcats’ chances of moving forward in the post season looked questionable midway through the match-up with Chadwick on March 3, but Verona’s talent brought the Lady Wildcats from behind for the 55-49 win.

Aurora started its second year with an indoor soccer team.
Indoor soccer is similar to outdoor soccer, but teams play six-on-six and play the ball off the walls and there are not any offsides.

The Verona Wildcats played a tough first quarter against Galena on February 25, but the following three quarters went to Galena. Verona lost 48-67 in the final home contest of the season.

The Marionville Lady Comets pulled out an upset over Wheaton on February 27. Marionville, seeded ninth, defeated Wheaton, seeded eighth, 44-40 in the first round of the Class 2 District 10 Tournament.

Marionville’s rivalry with Greenfield dates back several decades, so anytime the Comets get a win, it’s time for celebration. The Comets didn’t have any problems celebrating on February 23 after gaining a 12-point win over the Wildcats.

Marionville senior Macy Miller and the Lady Comets played their last home game of the season on February 18 against Ash Grove. The Lady Comets struggled on offense with missed shots and turnovers in the first half, which led to the 38-point loss.

Both Aurora teams traveled to Republic for the Class 4 District 11 Tournament with fifth seeds. In both games, Aurora traded the lead with their opponents, but it wasn't meant to be for Aurora. The Houn' Dawgs and Lady Houns ended their seasons in the first round of districts.

The AHS Houn’ Dawgs took to their home court for the last time this season on February 12, to give spectators a final exciting home game. The Dawgs managed to pull off a narrow 64-62 victory in overtime action over the Carl Junction Bulldogs.
