The Aurora tennis girls participated in their first back-to-back home matches of the season on August 19-20 against Carthage and Monett. Aurora’s varsity girls suffered losses in both contests, while the junior varsity squad defeated its Carthage opponents and fell to Monett.
Members of Aurora’s soccer team, coached by Curtis Bishop, opened their season at home on August 30, taking on the Bolivar Liberators. The Houn’ Dawgs displayed strong effort, but fell to the Liberators 0-5.
The Verona Lady Wildcats started the season with a two-set win over Hurley on August 31. The game was the team’s first game and home opener of the season.
Aurora had several errors in the game against Webb City on August 31, resulting in a 0-10 loss in five innings.
The Aurora Lady Houns traveled to Neosho for the first game of the season on August 31. Aurora won in two games with scores of 25-16 and 25-22.
The Aurora Lady Houns took third place over the weekend at the Ash Grove tournament on August 28. The girls were 1-1 in the tournament leading into the game.
The fate of the Marionville came down to the final seconds of the game Friday night as the Comets trailed Osceola. After a night full of penalties, Marionville trailed by seven with 15 seconds left, but an interception gave Osceola the ball and the 21-14 win over the Comets.
Aurora's Houn' Dawg football team opened the season with a bang Friday night defeating the Warsaw Wildcats. The Dawgs dominated the game shutting out the Wildcats 34-0.
The Aurora Lady Houns gave up early runs against McDonald County on August 24, but they were able to be within one until the fifth inning. Aurora then gave up another six runs in the game for a 2-9 loss.
The Lady Comets softball team opened with some first-game jitters on August 23 in a face-off with Southwest, but it didn't take long for pitcher Anna Brown to find her groove and the rest fell into place.
