Dear Editor,

This is an open letter to the citizens of Lawrence County.

We have been duped again, folks. According to county treasurer, county sales tax is up 19 percent. And, the new law enforcement tax hasn't gone into effect yet.

Just months before the April election, when they started pushing for the half cent tax, we were told county sales tax was down. Now it's up? Which is it?

If sales tax is up now, with the half cent tax in effect, county officials will be "rollin' in the dough." It will be interesting to see what the money will be used for.

I'd be willing to bet, the jail overcrowding issue will go away, and the extra space will be "rented out" to other counties. Now that's "big business!"

Law enforcement has become big business. Too big to afford.
