James Junior Shepherd, 87, of Aurora, MO, passed from this life on Saturday morning, May 12, 2018, while at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO.

Junior, as he was called by most, was born on October 17, 1930 in Verona, MO, son of the late James Quincy Shepherd and Jessie Elizabeth (Hunnell) Shepherd. Following his high school education, Junior enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 7, 1951. He served his country honorably during the Korean War and was discharged at the rank of Corporal on January 29, 1954. Once he returned home, Junior began his fifty-two year career as a Heavy Equipment Operator, beginning at Masters & Jackson Construction and later for Journagan Construction, retiring in 2006. Junior was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #101.

On December 23, 1970, Junior married Mildred Louise Calhoun. They were blessed with many wonderful years together until recent health declines.

Junior is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Leslie Moore and husband John and Janet Swope and husband Tim; one sister, Geraldine Shepherd; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and countless friends.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Susan Shipman; one brother, Wesley Hunnell; one sister, Darlene Myers; and two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Royce Bourque.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monett. Reverend Jimmie Copley will be officiating.
