Ora Jean Kays McGown, age 93, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett, Missouri. She was born August 22, 1924, in Eureka, Kansas, the daughter of Frederick Anthony Sr and Maude Lilian (Wickerham) Kays.

Jean graduated in 1942 from Eureka High School in Eureka, Kansas, and received in 1945 a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics from Kansas State Agricultural and Mechanics College in Manhattan, Kansas. She was a teacher in Linn, Kansas (Home Economics, 1945-46), Monett, Missouri (gym, health, and geography, 1946-47), Stockton, Missouri (Home Economics, 1955-56), Verona, Missouri (Kindergarten, 1967-71) and worked with her husband at his Veterinarian office. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Aurora.

On June 29, 1946, she married Dr. Murlin Lee McGown, in Manhattan, Kansas. He preceded her in death in Aurora, Missouri, on July 8, 2003.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Dianne McGown and Mary Kay Isaacson and her husband, Roger, all of Aurora; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Fred (1892-1945) and Lilian (1889-1975), daughter, Kelly Ann McGown Herman (Gainesville, Georgia, 1959-2013), three sisters, Laura Elizabeth Mack (Eureka, Kansas, 1916-1993), Lois Wickerham Kelley (Las Vegas, Nevada, 1917-2000), and Helen Patricia Ludlum (Greeley, Colorado, 1922-2008), and three brothers, Frederick Anthony Kays Jr (Augusta, Georgia, 1919-1997), Robert Cargill Kays (Portland, Oregon, 1926-1983), and David Dean Kays (Claremont, California, 1929-2015), preceded her in death.

A funeral service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora was held September 6, 2017, at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora the same day.
