Edwin Gene Cummings, age 82, of Aurora, Missouri, entered into rest on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He was born October 8, 1934, in Aurora, the son of the late Clinton and Nora (Calhoun) Cummings.

Edwin was a 1952 graduate of Aurora High and received his master’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 29 years and attained the highest rank for enlisted person, CMSGT. Edwin mentored many young airmen during his long and distinguished military career. A strong advocate for veterans, he was employed as a Missouri State Veteran’s Service officer for 18 years and was a past commander of the American Legion Post 126 in Aurora and a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora.

On July 18, 1959, he married Renate Ursula Kruger in Berlin, Germany.

He is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Renate; one son, Greg Cummings, of Republic, Missouri; two daughters, Kelly Cummings, of Aurora and Deborah Perez and her husband, Harry, of Abilene, Texas; one grandson, Eric Cummings, of Springfield, Missouri; two step-grandchildren, Corrinne Perez and Brandon Perez both of Abilene, Texas; four sisters, Myra Cartee and her husband, Ira, of Aurora, Marsha Haney of San Jose, California, Janice Parker and her husband, Garland, of Aurora and Janelle Cummings of Santa Clara, California and several nieces and nephews.

Edwin will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was constantly helping and providing care and support to his family, friends and veteran’s.

A graveside service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, was held on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the Orange, Cemetery north of Aurora.
