What it is Cox Monett Asthma Education Program provides education, supplies medication assistance, home assessments, access to a pediatric pulmonologist and more at no cost.
Who is involved The program targets children in the fourth through sixth grades who live in Barry and Lawrence counties. So far, seven schools have participated: Monett, Verona, Exeter, St. Lawrence Catholic (Monett), Pierce City, Aurora and Trinity Lutheran (Freistatt).
What is the purpose The purpose of the program is to identify children with asthma, provide asthma education to these children and their families, improve asthma management at school and at home and provide materials and assistance as needed.
What is the current participation Screening questionnaires have been sent to more than 1,300 students in the area and more than 800 students have attended a presentation. More than 60 students have completed or are currently enrolled in asthma education clases at this time.
