The Fourth of July celebration at the Marionville City Park appears to be bigger and better as members of the park board prepare for the celebration that evening.
The supplier and organizer of the fireworks display is providing additional materials and a more spectacular display, with larger, more vibrant fireworks than previous years, said a city spokesman.
Festivities will begin around 5 p.m. with the concession stand opening for snacks. The Girl Scouts will be selling snow cones. The Boy Scouts will conduct a flag retirement ceremony. Still another local group will sing the national anthem prior to the fireworks.
Other entertainment and events will be available throughout the evening, as well.
The public is invited to attend the special activities. Those attending should take their lawn chairs or blankets for sitting in comfort.
City officials also reminded spectators to leave the pets at home since pets are not allowed in the park.
The event, sponsored by the Marionville Park Board, will begin around 9 p.m. or as soon as darkness allows.
