Area business owners gave a monetary boost to Bright Futures with a quartermania fundraiser in December. Jennifer Vanderhoof, Norma Julian and Sharlene King Ferguson, event organizers, presented a check for $958 to Monique Sumners (second from right). Sumners, director of the Bright Futures program in the Aurora School District said the funds would be used for emergency student needs. The program is designed to assist students with the basic needs; educators have found it is hard for students to concentrate on school work when their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, etc.) are not met. The three organizers said they anticipate having another event in the spring with an Easter theme for another charitable project.
