On Monday of this week, members of the Aurora Police Department served a search warrant at 23 West Anderson and subsequently arrested two individuals, according to Interim Police Chief Pat Jenkins.
Officers seized more than a half-pound of marijuana, along with several thousand dollars in cash, a firearm, drug paraphernalia and small amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine and Xanax.
The residence is approximately 1,120 feet from Robinson School. Certain drug infractions occurring within 2,000 feet of a school increase to Class A felonies.
Some of the marijuana was contained in smaller packages, of a size and type normally offered for sale, noted Jenkins.
Officers charged:
• Billie W. Keith, 56, with felony distribution in a school zone, felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony unlawful use of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. His total bond is set at $62,500.
• Robert D. Campbell, 52, with felony distribution/possession near a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. His total bond is set at $53,000.
Officers transferred the duo to the Lawrence County Jail in Mt. Vernon; at last report, neither had bonded out of jail.
Jenkins noted officers Chris Kozisek and Chris Rackley developed the case, which stemmed from a shoplifting complaint by a local business owner.
Jenkins complimented the officers for pursuing the matter and noted there was “a strange set of circumstances” where “everything came together” in this case.
