U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill announced recently that the United States Department of Education Teaching American History Grants Program will provide the Aurora School District with $998,901 in federal grant funding to improve U.S. history instruction within the classroom.
According to the Department of Education, the Teaching American History Grants Program funds are used to raise student achievement by helping teachers further their knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and develop innovative instruction methods that foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the history curriculum.
McCaskill believes that federal grants and loans are a positive alternative to earmarks, which in the past have frequently had too little accountability.
Competitive merit and need based federal grants and low-interest government loans bring federal assistance to Missouri in an honest and
fiscally responsible manner.
