Janie Derby with the Angel Food program in Aurora said that beginning in August, regular box prices have dropped to $29.
“You should be ordering Angel Food. Great food at low prices helps your budget. School’s starting and that means new clothes, new shoes and school supplies. Feed your family well and save money at the same time,” Derby said.
This month’s box has breaded chicken chunks which are great tossed in a green salad with some shredded cheese. A refreshing summer meal without drive-thru prices, Derby said.
Brown one package of ground beef, season with onions, garlic and pepper, add a package of brown gravy mix and water, toss in corn and carrots and when your sauce has thickened, serve over mashed potatoes for a quick, tasty shepherd’s pie dinner, she said.
Other ideas include: cut the steaks into strips, sauté with garlic and season with a little black pepper. Add a package of brown gravy mix and water, toss in broccoli and let the sauce thicken. Serve over rice for a budget-conscious broccoli beef dinner.
“Great meals are always possible with Angel Food,” Derby said.
Everyone who orders a regular box in August will be entered in a drawing for a free grill box ($24 value). Julia Stockton won the deluxe overnighter filled with food in July.
